NFP commences installation of storage tanks
Construction of the Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant (NFP) reaches the next stage: commencement of on-site installation of water and product methanol storage tanks. Now the construction team has started installation of steel sheets and welding of tank bottoms.
The total of 20 storage tanks, including the underground ones, will be installed on site. Eight of the them are for storing final products. Each of these tanks will store up to 30,000 cubic meters of liquid product.
“Our cut-edge installation technologies ensure tanks durability and sustained performance even under extreme conditions. The tanks will consist of 14 bands of 12-26 mm. Each part will be connected with three or six continuous seams, which shall ensure the required reliability of the tanks during the operational stage. The installation method and the meticulous control executed at every step of the installation process will bring the risk of product leakage down to zero,” says Viktor Grebenyukov, the Executive Director of NFP.
All the tanks connection seams are carefully controlled and tested using digital radiography. This testing method helps one detect even microscopic defects in metal, i.e. corrosion, cracks and microporosity.
The product methanol will be transferred from the tanks to special tankers via pipes and then shipped to the end consumer. The methanol transportation system will be fully closed and sealed, which will prevent emissions. Only the best technologies are used in the construction of the plant to ensure proper protection of the environment.
NFP will make top five methanol producers in the country. The plant will use natural gas to synthesize 5.4 thousand tons of methanol per day and will reach its design capacity in 2027.
