NFP planted 25,000 cedars in Primorye
The Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant (NFP) arranged a large-scale environmental tree planting campaign on nine hectares in Partizansky District. Over 50 more volunteers joined the NFP team on such a huge occasion as part of the “Preserve the Forest” Russian national project.
“This year over 70 mln trees will be planted across Russia. The total number of trees planted since 2019 exceeded 300 mln. On average, it makes two trees per capita. Cedar seedlings will be planted here and nursed for several decades. NFP is our regular partner and we hold similar campaigns jointly every year. For example, in June we got together to plant four alleys in a school and a kindergarten of Nakhodka,” said Mr Evgeny Chuvasov, first deputy minister of agriculture, the environment, wildlife and natural resources of Primorsky Krai.
Sergeevka Forestry Department defined a location of the reforestation, which used to be a thick forest some time ago, but the trees were burnt. Planting of 25,000 Korean pines was a common effort to restore them.
“The environment is our priority. Annually, we release thousands of chum salmon juveniles into local rivers, grow trees and, equally important, teach environmental lessons in schools and kindergartens of Nakhodka. Today, many forest restoration enthusiasts from both Nakhodka and Partizansky District joined us. It means, we are on the right way,” said Mr Viktor Grebenyukov, Executive Director of NFP.
It took almost 50 people to plant the new trees: school foresters, volunteers from Nakhodka Arts and Polytechnic College, Stroyproektgrupp, Administration of Partizansky District and local farmers as well as students of the DOSAAF patriotic team [analogue of scouts].
“Our Earth is the only green planet; this is why it has to be taken care of and protected. Such campaigns are a real mind-blower for me: I changed my perspective of the forest and decided I would get related education,” said Ms Alina Marshankina, graduate of Novye Lesovody forestry school situated in Novitskoye village.
Environmental protection and recovery are NFP’s key initiatives. The plant set up a 200,000 tree nursery in Partizansky District and will soon be planting its own stock during such campaigns.
