NFP starts installation of the water treatment equipment
The Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant (NFP) starts the installation of the water treatment and water desalination equipment. The water treatment station is equipped with filters, pumps and reverse osmosis units, i.e. the total of 29 pieces of equipment installed on the foundation.
Water is one of the three main components in methanol production. NFP will take water from the Sea of Japan, paying special attention to the preservation of the water area. The water pumps will be fish-friendly and equipped with special filters to protect wildlife during water pumping.
“Environmental safety and nature conservation are our ultimate priorities. Therefore, even at the designing stage we decided to opt for the best technologies available to us. One great example of this decision is the water desalination system. Desalinated and demineralized water is used in methanol synthesis. The water treatment method that we use here is more than 70 years old and is used almost in every household, i.e. the reverse osmosis. This method allows one to avoid the use of any sorbents or other reagents,” says Viktor Grebenyukov, the Executive Director of NFP.
The water used at the plant will be in either liquid or gaseous state. The water vapor will saturate the natural gas, while the liquid form will be used for either cooling or heating this gas at various production stages. Water will be continuously circulating in a closed-loop water system, which means that it will be reused in other production cycles together with other natural gas products.
In total the water treatment and desalination station will have more than 300 pieces of equipment, both static and dynamic. Furthermore, the facility is now seeing the completion of installation of the water storage tanks. The Plant itself will reach its design capacity in 2027 and make top five production facilities in the country.
