NFP: Foundation Laid

Construction of the Nakhodka Mineral Fertiliser Plant has now reached a new stage — ground works.

Seismic stability of the plant foundation is the focus. The foundation can sustain magnitude 9 earthquakes. Also, it can bear up to 400 t of heavy equipment.

“The general structure will be over 3 m high. The foundation is non-homogeneous all across the area: there are multiple reinforcement levels, several layers of poured concrete, extra embedments and columns in certain locations. We make plate tests, pressuremeter tests, ground penetrating radar surveys and other intricate tests at each stage of foundation construction in order to make sure that soil has sufficient load bearing capacity at the bottom and to assess foundation strength,” says Viktor Grebenyukov, Executive Director of NFP.

Installation of methanol synthesis equipment will start once the foundation has been raised. All necessary parts were manufactured and delivered to the job site.

The anchor resident of the “Nakhodka” Priority Development Area will complete main construction activities in 2026. NFP’s annual production capacity will amount to 1.8 mln tonnes of methanol. The Nakhodka Mineral Fertiliser Plant is one of the three largest investment projects in the Far East and is one of the top 10 projects in Russia.
