NFP getting ready to commission the heart of the plant
At the construction site of Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizer Plant one of the most critical and complex stages of process equipment installation is taking place – work on the internal lining and thermal insulation of the reforming furnace.
The reforming furnace is the “heart” of the future industrial giant, capable of withstanding temperatures over 1000 degrees. It will heat natural gas to production levels. The lining, or, in other words, the refractory brick, has a complex, multi-layer structure. It is made up of fiber sheets, refractory fiber blocks and refractory brickwork.
“More than half of the necessary work has now been completed. At the same time, we carried out pre-commissioning work for the start-up boiler – drying out the lining. The process itself takes place at the height of a fifth floor, while the width of the furnace chambers in some areas is only three meters. But even in such conditions, the workers manage to maintain strict geometry of the vaults and walls and provide the necessary thermal gaps,” says Viktor Grebenyukov, executive director of NFP.
NFP will produce methanol from natural gas, water and air through reforming. The production line is divided into three stages: conversion, synthesis and distillation. Three-stage reforming is the latest technology that helps to significantly reduce the carbon footprint in nature. Among other things, the enterprise will implement a closed cycle principle, where almost all processed products are reused in subsequent cycles.
The plant is currently undergoing final construction and installation work and preparing for commissioning of all production units. In the spring of 2027, NFP will release its first batch of finished products. After reaching production capacity, the plant will synthesize 1.8 million tons of methanol from natural gas annually and will be among the top five leaders in the country in terms of production quantities.
