Nakhodka Mineral Fertilizers Plant (NFP) is now entering the next stage of project implementation – commissioning of production facilities. Static tests of the Air Dryer and Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) units are already carried out at the Air Separation Unit (ASU).

Natural gas, water, and oxygen are three pillars of methanol production. Therefore, the construction of the gas pipeline was finished in the first quarter of 2026. At the same time, the required amount of water will be pumped from the Sea of Japan, paying special attention to the protection of the water area. The pumps are equipped with fish protection screens, which means that the water intake will not affect marine life. The ASU produces a couple of components used in methanol production, most importantly, the oxygen.

“The construction phase of the project is almost over, and now we are entering the new stage – commissioning of individual systems. Testing of production systems is scheduled for autumn. We will check their readiness for withstanding design loads, as well as do a trial production run. We will only use eco-friendly production technologies with water, oxygen, and natural gas at their centre, to minimize any impact on environment during methanol production,” says Viktor Grebenyukov, Executive Director of NFP.

NFP is one of the largest investment projects in the Far East and the biggest methanol production facility beyond the Urals. The first batch of product methanol will be produced by NFP in the first quarter of 2027. Upon reaching its design capacity, NFP will make top five methanol production leaders in the country with the annual output of 1.8 million tons.
